What Age is Ideal for Taking My Child to the Dentist?

If you just become a parent, you might be unsure of the appropriate age to begin bringing your child to the dentist. According to the American Dental Association, your child should visit a dentist when they turn one or when their first tooth appears, whichever occurs first.

This is the perfect time to schedule a dental examination for your older child if they haven’t already. The best way to ensure that your child’s mouth stays healthy for years to come is to have six-month dental exams and cleanings with our team.

One of our dentists will inspect your child’s mouth, talk with you about their dental health, and address any oral hygiene-related questions you may have at your initial appointment. We will inquire about your child’s diet and oral care routine and provide you with individualized guidance on how to protect your child’s mouth as they grow. We always welcome new patients, and we would be honored to get to know you and your family.

Children’s Teeth Are Best Protected with Dental Sealants!

The best treatment for cavities is to keep them away. Although appropriate brushing and flossing procedures can prevent cavities, dental sealants can help if you want to provide your child an additional layer of defense.

Dental sealants are made up of a specific liquid resin “painted” on your child’s back molars before hardening into a solid, tough plastic surface. Molars, where cavities are common, are protected from plaque, bacteria, and acid that would otherwise cause tooth decay. This treatment is perfect for young children who are prone to cavities because it is affordable, non-invasive, and can last up to ten years.

Fillings that match the teeth are used to treat cavities.

Your child might still get a cavity that needs filling despite all of your efforts. By the age of 19, about half of all youngsters in the United States will have at least one cavity. We are aware that getting a filling may cause anxiety in both you and your child.

We make every effort to ensure that you and your child feel at ease throughout the treatment and to explain the approach to you and your child in a way that is kid-friendly. We also offer sedation dentistry for kids of all ages, and we use composite fillings that match your child’s teeth to preserve their smiles pearly white and appealing.
